Course programme
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
Please be aware that programme modules do change and therefore may differ for your year of entry.
Stage 1 Compulsory modules- SOC1030 The Sociological Imagination: An Introduction to the Discipline
- SOC1031 Knowing in Sociology: An Introduction to Theory, Methods and Epistemology
- SOC1027 Comparing Cultures

- SOC1033 Understanding Everyday Life
You also take a further 20 credits, which may be the module below, or from other subjects within the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology or other areas of the University:

Careers Sociology careers
Studying sociology equips you with skills such as critical thinking, the ability to analyse complex data and conduct social research, as well as communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, which are relevant to many different work environments.
Throughout your degree you will be encouraged to develop a diverse portfolio of knowledge and skills, and engage with issues and debates directly relevant to careers in many fields. Employers recognise that sociology graduates have independent research skills and often have an interest in working with people, and this is reflected in the types of jobs sociology graduates do.
