The focus of Sociology is people in society.  We examine research which has been carried out by sociologists and others into human behaviour in groups. We are all members of distinct social groups (ethnic, gender, social class and age etc.). We examine how an individual's social background can affect their life chances. You may also be interested in taking this course to support you in your professional career in research, law, education, health and social care or marketing.

Entry requirements


At least 5 A*- C grades at GCSE, including a designated B grade with an average GCSE Score of at least 5. Designated B grades include; English language, Geography and History.


Not only will you learn about the society in which you live, you will also develop skills that will be useful in your study of other A-Level subjects, study at HE level and in future employment. For example studying sociology will encourage you to think more critically by developing your skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation.
