The Spa industry requires professional and informed therapists who have the skills and knowledge to go on to become successful and effective managers in day spas, residential spas, hotel spas  and health club chains both in the UK and worldwide. We work very closely with industry leaders, trainers, recruiters and industry advisors to inform the content of this course to ensure its currency and balance between both theoretical and practical experiences.

If you are ambitious, want to stand apart from others and have a passion for working with people to improve their lifestyle and well-being in a business context, this course offers you a unique opportunity to further your career. Alongside attending College regularly for classes, you will work closely with a number of Spa companies and major spa employers in the UK and also complete a formal work placement. You will experience innovative presentations and workshops from leading product companies and training in a variety of commercial spa treatments and techniques that employers expect.

Working with local employers will give you practice, confidence and expertise in developing communications and management skills, complex booking and rostering, retail and stock management, marketing, HR and financial aspects of running a successful spa. Experience of working with fee paying guests, solving day to day operational problems gives you a deep understanding of business, develops your entrepreneurial and business skills and offers you every opportunity of gaining employment on your graduation.

Warwickshire College was granted Foundation degree awarding powers by Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council in September 2014 reflecting the very high confidence placed in us by independent higher education assessors after a year-long detailed scrutiny. FdA Spa Management is one of the first of our new awards following a successful course approval during 2015. The highly experienced team have been delivering the Foundation degree, awarded by partner universities, since 2008 and have had the pleasure of seeing many graduates progress to wide range of jobs, higher degrees and other successful positions.

    How will I be assessed?

    The basis for the programme will be a mixture of formal study and hands-on work-based practice. Typical assessments include case studies, practical assessments and written assignments.

    What is the entry process?

    Applications should be made through UCAS, using the institution code for Warwickshire College – W25 – and the course code shown below. Applicants will be normally invited to an Informaton and Guidance session by Warwickshire College.  These sessions are part of a supportive process to help you to decide the right course for you and your career goals.

    What are the entry requirements?

    Minimum qualifications: Full level 3

    Normally, applicants will be expected to have a Level 3 Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Spa Therapy or Level 3 Holistic Therapy Qualification or equivalent.

    The college welcomes applications from students with relevant work experience who do not have the formal academic qualifications, and from students with disabilities. All applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to study independently at HE level. Accreditation of prior learning will be considered.

    What else do I need to know?

    You will be required to provide your own suitable clothing to wear in College.  Please ask at your College either at interview or enrolment for further information on what you will need to wear.

    The hair and beauty industry has an annual turnover of more than £5 billion. This growth industry provides over 230,000 jobs and there are many opportunities to become your own manager and reap the benefits of your own hard work. With over 70% of all salons being independently owned single outlets, our courses have a strong emphasis on business management.

    The centre at Leamington Spa has a commercial salons used in teaching.

    PART TIME HAIR, BEAUTY AND SPA MANAGEMENT FDA COURSES 

    We may be able to offer this programme as part time study, please contact our administrator in the first instance on 01564 797811 who will be happy to discuss your options.

    Part time students would be required to attend classes and follow the same timetable with full timers at present. This equates to:
    2 days of classes – day time
    1 day working in our or their spa – carrying out applicable supervisory duties
    1 day min. reading and independent study 

    If there are sufficient part time student numbers a more individualised approach can be considered.
    Some applicants may have prior learning recognised, such as where diplomas are already held. This will be viewed on an individual basis.

    What can I do after this course?

    The Foundation degree will provide opportunities to enter a wide range of jobs in the Spa industry as Creative Supervisor or Assistant Manager.

    Successful candidates can progress to the final year of Warwickshire College's BA (Hons) Business, Strategy and Management, validated by the University of Gloucestershire.
