Spanish A2
Your Course
The Spanish A2 level course is suitable for students who have completed the AS course or who have studied Spanish for at least 3-4 years.
The examination board we use is AQA, new specification(2695). This new syllabus is only compatible with the new AS taken in June 2009. Students with an AS level in Spanish from Curriculum 2000-2008 will need to resit their AS in order to complete the full A level. It is possible to sit AS and A2 in the same year.
The A2 examination consists of the folowing units:
· Unit 3: Listening, reading and writing. Time: 2.5 hours, weighing 35% of total A level marks
· Unit 4: Speaking test. Time: 35 minutes, (including 20 minutes preparation time), weighing 15% of total A level marks.
The course will cover the following topic areas:
· Environment: pollution, energy and protecting the planet
· The multi-cultural society: immigration, integration and racism
· Contempory social issues: wealth and poverty, law and order and the impact of scientific and technological progress.
· Cultural topic: the study of a Spanish speaking region/community: or a Spanish speaking novelist/dramatist/poet, or director/architect/painter
The library houses a large variety of Spanish resources. You will be able to access the Modern Languages homepage on the IT network. Application for computer access is required.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Extend your understanding of the spoken and written forms of Spanish in a variety of registers
· Use the language to analyse, evaluate, hypothesise, argue a case and present viewpoints in speech and writing.
· Develop critical insights into the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of Spain and Spanish speaking communities.
Your Tutor
Pedo Barriuso Algar who is a native speaker from Seville in Spain. He graduated with a degree in Spanish and English at the University of Seville, where he qualified as a teacher. After teaching English in Spain for two years he moved to Cambridge, where he has been teaching Spanish to adults. Apart from teaching Spanish, he has also worked as a language assistant and oral examiner. Pedro is currently teaching Spanish at schools in Cambridge and surrounding areas and working as an Associate Lecturer for the Open University.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
