Spanish Beginners level 2
Your Course
This 10 week course is suitable for those who have already studied Spanish for one term. The course is based on a communicative approach and aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language. It aims to enable students to understand and use Spanish effectively for purposes of practical communication, to develop some understanding of grammar and to offer insights into the culture of Spanish speaking countries.
This course feeds into Beginners level 3 in the summer term 2010.
During the Beginners level 2 course students will take short internal assessments in speaking and writing Spanish. This will help to prepare them for the OCR Asset Language external tests that will be taken at the end of the following term.
The course book that will be used is'Pasos 1',[chapters 4-6]. There will be supplementary material provided.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to learn the Spanish for the following:
· Making hotel bookings
· Describing places, houses and people
· Discussing daily routine and free time.
· Going shopping for food and clothes
You will have learnt some basic grammar, in particular:
· The present tense, including reflexive verbs
· Use of adjectives, the comparative, prepositions and articles
· Uses of ser and estar
· Comparatives
Your Tutor
Group 1: Pedro Barriuso Algar is a native speaker from Seville in Spain. He graduated with a degree in Spanish and English at the university of Seville, where he qualified as a teacher. After teaching English in Spain for two years he moved to Cambridge where he has been teaching Spanish to adults. Apart from teaching Spanish at Hills Road, he is also a tutor for the Open University, and a language supervisor at the University of Cambridge. He recently completed a Masters Degree in Education (Applied Linguistics).
Group 2: Gladys Sanchez Ray was born in Argentina, and her family on her father's side came from Spain and on her mother's from Italy, so she is a native speaker of Italian and Spanish. Gladys Sanchez Ray has completed a course in the Italian language at the University of Florence, where she lived for seven years. She obtained the Certificate of Education franchised by Anglia Ruskin University in 2006. She has taught Italian and Spanish at various levels since 2004.

Tuition fees: £90
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
