Course programme
This thought-provoking and highly stimulating combined honours programme offers those with an interest in psychology, sport and/or exercise an opportunity to explore the connections between these topical subjects. Largely in the context of sport and physical activity, the programme covers a wide and interesting range of psychological concepts (such as motivation, leadership, emotion, confidence, and attention) in an attempt to understand, explain and in some circumstances, predict or modify human behaviour. Students have access to an array of state-of-the-art equipment, in order to investigate and critically examine human behaviour in the physical domain. During the programme, students are immersed in a variety of teaching, learning and assessment environments (both real and virtual) such as large scale lectures and discussions, and small group seminars and online debates). The programme was born out of the long-standing and highly regarded BSc Sport and Exercise Science and BSc Psychology degree programmes, both of which have a historical tradition of excellence at the University. It uses many core ideas and methods from these, combined with the recommendations from important external bodies (such as The British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences (BASES) and the British Psychological Society (BPS)).
