Course Content:
The BTEC course enables students to acquire a broad knowledge of sports related topics. The units covered will be:
· Unit 1 - The Body in Sport
· Unit 2 - Health, Safety and Injury in Sport
· Unit 3 - The Sports Industry
· Unit 4 - Preparation for Sport
· Unit 6 - Practical Sport
· Unit 13 - Work-based Project in Sport
Students will be required to undertake a two week work placement in January.
Teaching Learning Methods:
Students will be expected to produce four detailed assignments to be included in their portfolio of evidence. The students will also prepare evidence of planning a Personal Exercise Plan (PEP) and keep a diary styled record of their work experience. The intention of the BTEC course is to develop a theoretical knowledge of Sport and PE issues which will equip students with the ability to apply their learning within a practical working context or progress onto Advanced level studies.
Key Skills:
All students will be given the opportunity to develop certain key skills for which they will receive full accreditation. These key skills relate to the following areas:

Assessment:
Students will be continually assessed throughout the course and must be competent in all areas. A portfolio of work will be submitted for external verification. There are three different grades, which can be awarded to students on completion of the course:
Distinction, Merit, Pass
Unit 1 - The Sports Industry will be externally assessed.
Unit 10 - Requires the student to complete 2 blocks of work experience
Skills & Commitment:
Students are expected to take part in college sporting activities, which will include clubs and extra curricular activities, which supplement practical options.
Cost:
Students will be required to purchase appropriate kit and purchase additional resources.

Entry Requirement:
This vocational course is suitable for students who:
1. Have achieved at least four D's at GCSE or Passed NVQ Foundation or BTEC Introductory.
2. Merit or Distinction at GNVQ Foundation.
AND
Who are interested in a career in the Sport and Leisure Industry. Students must have a general ability in a range of sports. The course has a Practical unit so students therefore must have an interest in taking part in sport and practical activities.
