About this course
You will need GCSEs mostly at grade D. If you do not have grade C in Maths and/or English you will be required to take a resit course to obtain a higher grade. You will also need a strong interest in all areas of sport and a desire to work in recreation, leisure, sport or related industries.

About the Course
This is a one-year course following areas of study in both practical and theory:
The Sports Industry
You will investigate the nature of sport, sports participation and sports development. You will examine the organisation of sport, its sources of funding and other key issues eg race, gender and media.
Health, Safety and Injury in Sport
You will investigate the main risk factors that cause sporting injuries, examine common sports injuries and basic treatment procedures.
Preparation for Sport
You will explore and examine sporting fitness levels and lifestyles, including nutritional requirements. You will learn how to plan a fitness training programme and investigate the psychological factors that affect training and
performance.
The Body in Sport
You will learn about the skeletal and muscular systems and their role in producing sports movements and actions. You will also study the cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems and investigate the short-term effects of exercise on these systems.
Sport and Leisure Facility Operations
You will learn how sports and leisure centres are organised and run. You will learn the importance of safety, security and customer service. You will learn how to set up, check, take down and store sports equipment.
Planning and Leading Sports Activities
You will learn how to plan, deliver and review sports sessions and examine the skills and qualities of successful sports leaders.
We recommend that you take Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership with this course.

No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may progress to BTEC National Diploma, Advanced Level courses (if you achieve merit), or go directly to employment in the recreation, leisure, sport or related industries.
