Entry requirements:
Students should have at least one of the following:

  • a BTEC First in a related subject
  • an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
  • at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English Language

Course assessment:
All assessment is through projects and assignments. All units are assessed and graded using Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

The BTEC National Diploma in Sport provides an introduction to the sector for those looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas. These areas include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching, sports development and P.E. teaching. The course combines practical and theoretical learning and is equivalent to three A levels.

Which other courses link well with this subject?
This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is usually taken as a stand alone qualification. Some students with high GCSE scores may take an additional AS, for example Leisure Studies.

Future Opportunities
Higher Education courses in leisure management, sport science, P.E. teaching, coaching and exercise studies are common destinations for students. Students can also progress directly into employment in one of the many sport related sectors including sports development and the fitness industry.
