What qualifications do I need?

You will need to have a achieved the first year (90 credit) Level 3 Sport Course with at least Merit grades, have an excellent performance record and a successful interview. 

What’s involved?

In addition to the units covered on the National Diploma you will also study the following areas:
• Analysing sports performance
• Sport psychology
• Work experience
• Coaching children
• You will also study one Functional Skill, GCSE or an Enterprise qualification.

If you wish to use this course to gain entry to University you will need to follow the 180 credits route and work consistantly hard to achieve the top grades.

How will I be studying?

The course combines academic study with practical situations based on sport. Other methods of study include lectures, group work, individual work and practical coaching.

Where can I move on to after this course?

The Extended Diploma (180 credits) is equivalent to three A Levels and can be used to gain direct entry on to a full degree programme at University. This could lead to a career as a PE teacher, physiotherapist, sports development officer etc.

Alternatively you can progress into a career in the leisure industry eg:
• Outdoor Activity Centres
• Community Sports Centres
• Health and Fitness Clubs
• Public Services such as the Fire Service and the Police
