BSc(Hons) Sport Rehabilitation is accredited by the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT). It leads to eligibility for membership of BASRaT. Your study will be supported by fully integrated work-based training, including placements with elite sports teams and outstanding facilities. As well as learning the theory of good professional practice and studying the academic subjects that underpin it, you will develop the ability to work closely with patients in both clinical and sports-based environments. Throughout the course, you will be taught by a team of professionals at the leading-edge of sport rehabilitation and physiotherapy, helping you to gain additional qualifications to enhance your employability.
Real-world experience
The course has a strong practical focus, incorporating evidence-based learning and access to the most advanced facilities and equipment. A minimum of 400 hours will be spent on placements in a variety of settings, including working with elite sports medical teams, sports injury clinics, sports clubs, fitness centres and rehabilitation units, putting you in a strong position for future employment. Throughout the course, you will engage with practicing graduate sport rehabilitators, physiotherapists and patients in a range of situations.

Course programme

Content

This course is divided into three stages, which equate to three academic years. All three years combine university-based experience and professional practice.

Year one

The modules at this level are designed to provide a sound foundation in the basic sciences of anatomy, biomechanics and human physiology. You will also be introduced to the pathology, assessment and management related to sport rehabilitation. These modules are delivered at the Glenside Campus and the Centre for Sport at the main campus at Frenchay.

Practical sessions involving practice of professional skills, using fellow students as models, will ensure you are prepared for the professional practice components of the degree.

You will study the following modules:

  • Kinesiology
  • Human Physiology
  • Management of Soft Tissue Injury 1
  • Sports Injury: Aetiology and Pathology

Year two

Building upon Year one modules, this level integrates academic studies and professional practice. The focus is on clinical assessment, advancing skills in the management of sporting injury and, evidence-based practice and developing autonomous practitioners that are reflective about their clinical practice experiences. The academic components of modules are delivered at Glenside Campus, Bristol.

You will study the following modules:

  • Professional Issues in Sports Therapy and Practice
  • Management of Soft Tissue Injury 2
  • Evidence-based Sports Therapy

Final year

Modules aim to broaden your knowledge of the field of sport rehabilitation beyond that of clinical practice.

You will study the following modules:

  • Fitness and Injury Prevention
  • Sport Specific Rehabilitation
  • Psychology of Sport and Injury
  • Fieldwork Placement
  • Research Studies for Physical Therapies
