Sport Studies - Intermediate - BTEC First Diploma
The Sport Department has excellent facilities including an all-weather football pitch, sports hall and fitness suite. It has teams in many sports who compete and train on a regular basis.
What will I study?
You will complete six units in one year. This will be the equivalent of four GCSEs A-C and will allow you to progress to level three if you pass all units. The course is split into three semesters with two units being completed in each semester. Students must pass each semester to carry onto the next semester.
You will cover the following units:
· Body in action.
· Fitness in sport.
· Practical sport.
· Health and safety.
· Technical skills.
· Psychology.
All the units link into BTEC National Diploma Units to allow students to easily progress from level 2 to level 3.
How is the course assessed?
Coursework with one externally assessed assignment.
What enrichment will there be?
Activities include:
· Trampolining and gymnastics.
· Squash.
· Rowing.
· Climbing.
· Exercise for fitness.
· Multi skills tournaments.
· Intra-college tournaments.
· Volunteering and leadership.
What could I do next?
The BTEC First Diploma in Sport will enable you to progress to the BTEC National Diploma Award in Sport, which will enable you to progress to degree courses in sport, such as health & fitness, sports science, teaching and sports therapy.
Alternatively you can go into employment at leisure centres, health & fitness clubs, outdoor recreation centres, and activity/adventure holiday resorts.
