About this course
No! The most important prerequisites are a positive and a genuine interest in sport. Students who undertake the diploma will already have a strong bias toward a career in the sector and/or to continue with this subject into Higher Education.

SPORT BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE
BTEC National Certificate in Sport is an exciting, practically based course, developed to provide continuity with GCSE Physical Education or BTEC first in Sport, although these qualifications are not mandatory prerequisites. The course is offered at two different centres - Scarborough Sixth Form College, or George Pindar Community Sports College. Although the course at each centre leads to the same qualification, the specialist units of study may differ slightly.
The Diploma consists of 18 units in total, seven Core and eleven Specialist units and is equivalent to three A levels.
The Certificate consists of 12 units in total, seven Core and five Specialist units and is equivalent to two A levels. The Certificate is currently only available at George Pindar Community Sports College.
If students decide to study at George Pindar Community Sports College for their Certificate/Diploma, they will still be able to access A levels or GCSE re-sit classes at Scarborough Sixth Form College.

The course is continually assessed via presentations, projects, posters and performing in a variety of roles. There are no external examinations on this course.
The Diploma students will complete nine units in each year completing a total of eighteen units , equivalent to a total of 1080 guided learning hours.
The Certificate students will complete six units in each year completing a total of twelve units , equivalent to a total of 720 guided learning hours.
What career opportunities are there?
BTEC National Diploma/ Certificate in Sport can lead to a range of higher education courses in sport development and coaching, physical education and leisure management.
Posts in leisure management are increasingly looking for BTEC applicants to recruit onto their own in house training programmes and BTEC sports students have secured posts with many of the big local employers.
...and what else?
All sports students play an active role in the college's representative and recreational sports programme and have received district, county and national honours.
The Department organises ski courses and runs an annual exchange with students from Ostersund in Sweden. Trips are also arranged to major sporting venues and sports departments of universities.
