Course programme



This course is designed to give you qualifications and practical skills directly applicable to the sports industry. The main themes of the College Diploma are sports coaching, sports leadership, working with children and fitness instructing.


The course is made up of a diverse range of modules that form the College Diploma in Sports Coaching. A variety of learning styles are developed and include formal classroom lessons, group work, presentations, individual tutorials and practical coaching sessions. All students are encouraged to find voluntary work in sports coaching prior to starting the course. In addition to your main programme, you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.



Course content
Sports Coaching Diploma students have the opportunity to achieve a range awards that may include the following –

Level 3 Certificate in Higher Sports Leaders – this includes Event Management, Disability Sport and Emergency First Aid Training. 30 UCAS points are awarded on achieving this qualification.



  • 1st4sport Level 3 Award in the Principles of Coaching Sport

  • 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport

  • YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-based exercise)

  • NGB Coaching Awards in Different Sports (includes FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football) – subject to tutor availability

  • Safeguarding of Children Training

Course Progression

As the College Diploma is a diverse combination of various awards it is not nationally recognised in its own right (although each individual award is). The opportunity may exist for students to progress onto Higher Education. The extra UCAS points available may enhance a university application.



Career Prospects

Opportunities for employment are within the sport and recreation sector, particularly in sports facilities, schools, sports coaching organisations and fitness gyms. The modules on the course are recognised nationally in the sport, leisure and recreation field, providing students with very comprehensive curriculum vitaes (CVs).

Applying for a Full-Time course


Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
You will receive the details of your first day over the summer period,

If you are 19 or over on the day your course starts, and your course is an approved qualification at level 3 or above, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your tuition.
