About this course
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, or a Merit at OCR Level 2 in Sport and an interest in sport, both academically and practically. This course is equivalent to three A Levels and is a full-time qualification. It has been designed to develop knowledge, understanding and the practical skills required for work in the sports industry.

Sports Development and Fitness
The aims of the course are:
To stimulate and sustain students' interest in, and enjoyment of the sports industry.To develop practical sports skills in a variety of sports.To provide an appropriate course for those who wish to either progress into employment or to go onto Higher Level qualifications, such as HND or degree courses.
Assessment
All units are assessed and graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and
an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
The diploma consists of 18 units with eight core and 10 compulsory
units.
Year One units include:
Unit 1: The Body in Sport
Unit 2: Health and Safety in Sport
Unit 3: Training and Fitness
Unit 4: Sports Coaching
Unit 6: Fitness Testing for Sport
Unit 7: Practical Team Sports Unit
Unit 9: Outdoor Adventurous Activities
Unit 10: Sports Nutrition
Unit 12: Leadership in Sport
Unit 13: Exercise Health and Lifestyle
Year Two units include:
Unit 5: Sports Development
Unit 8: Practical Individual Sports
Unit 11: Sport and Society
Unit 16: Psychology for Sports Performance
Unit 17: Sports Injuries
Unit 20: Sports Massage
Unit 23: Working with Children in SportStudents go on to study on Higher National or undergraduate degree programmes in Physical Education, Sports Science or Sports Coaching. Some students go straight into employment in the sport and recreation industries.

Merit and Distinction grade: 97%
Highlights: 97% of learners achieved a'Triple Distinction' grade (equivalent to three A grades at A level), highly exceeding the national figure.
