This course is designed to develop the understanding and skills of sports coaches within a practical and supportive environment. It encompasses units that help you understand the role of sports development within society.
The Sports Development and Coaching foundation degree is a new innovative degree which has been designed with the assistance of employer organisations in sport across Staffordshire. It blends the academic and practical aspects of sport development and coaching into one exciting programme. The foundation degree will enable work-based learning within school, club and community-based sports provision, and considers how national sports initiatives are set within social, employment and legislative frameworks.

Entry Requirements
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS UCAS Tariff Points: Pre-2017 Entry - 120 points, Post-2017 Entry - 48 points The tariff points can be made up of: A Levels (GCE and VCE): 2 A Levels at Grade D BTEC Extended Diploma: Grade PPP BTEC Diploma: Grade MP BTEC 90 Credit Diploma: Grade MM Access to HE: Grade P45 The Level 3 qualification must consist of a sport related subject. Minimum number of GCSEs at Grade C or above: 3 NON-ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS DBS Clearance
Delivery and Assessment
Students will be assessed using a range of methods including report writing, presentations, written reports, videos, podcasts and inclass tests.
Progression
This course can be used to gain access to an additional third year on the BA (Hons) Sport Coaching & Development degree programme at Staffordshire University. Alternatively, you may choose to use your foundation degree to gain employment in a wide variety of sports settings. You could also use your foundation degree to apply to progress to other universities to study degree programmes. It should be noted that you will probably only be able to enter at year two rather than into year three, as you can if you progress to the full degree at Staffordshire University.
