Course programme
You can study modules in Anatomy, Physiology, Health and Fitness, Sports Injuries, Biomechanics, Sports Psychology, Sports Studies, Diet and Nutrition, Coaching Skills, Study Skills, Maths and Statistics, and IT.
You don't need any formal qualifications, but you are advised to have work experience in sports clubs, gyms, sports clinics, schools, etc. Communication skills are important, so you will be given a simple diagnostic assessment in communications as part of your assessment interview.
Overseas applicants must have scored a 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System, with a minimum score of 5.5 on each skill.
Assessment is mainly continuous and geared to the needs of mature learners.
The course provides a pathway onto a variety of Higher Education degree courses at Universities around the country. These include Foundation Degrees in Football and Community Coaching (with Arsenal FC) and Personal Training which are both run by City and Islington College.
Further to these, applicants can progress onto Full Bachelor of Science Degrees in Sports Therapy, Sports Science, Sports Coaching Science, Sports Studies, Sports and Exercise Science as well as Sports Psychology. City and Islington College are proud to have special links with London Metropolitan University and Arsenal Football Club, where our students continue to progress onto Higher Education, Coaching Placements and even a combination of the two, through the colleges Foundation Degree in Football and Community Coaching with Arsenal FC.
