The B.A. (Hons) Sports Studies and Development delivers a range of innovative modules which will prepare you with the necessary skills to embark on a career in sports development. The North West has a rich sports infrastructure, with around 40,000 people employed in the sport and recreation industry. However, skills gaps have been identified in the following areas: Sport specific technical skills; communication; initiative; team working; planning and preparing work; child protection; and first aid. Ambitious graduates therefore will be able to seek employment as sports development officers, club/coach development officers, activity team leaders, strength and conditioning coaches and sports/leisure managers.

This vocationally-based qualification provides students with an innovative introduction to the community sports provision . It delivers theoretical and practical insight into the many disciplines linked to sports studies and development, developing skills such as collaborative team-working, leadership, problem-solving and decision-making. Sports Studies and Development is very much about improving the health and wellbeing of the community through the power of sport and physical activity. It can unite and develop forgotten sections of a community and provide confidence and equality for all. A variety of experiences are covered, ensuring you are prepared for a multitude of careers within the sports and leisure industries and that you are capable of communicating effectively in a wide range of settings; you will also benefit from the first-hand experience of our various subject specialists.
