Foundation Degree, FdSc (awarded by the University of Plymouth)

What's it all about?:
Are you patient and sympathetic to people? Are you able to work under pressure? Do you have an optimistic approach to life? You will be using these skills to treat injured sportsmen and women of all ages and levels of sporting ability, both amateur and professional. Our foundation degree, accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists, will educate you in detailed knowledge of injury prevention, practice in assessing injuries and introduce you to the rehabilitation of various sporting injuries.

Progression:
Subject to specific requirements, you may progress to:
• the final year of the BSc (Hons) Health and Fitness degree at the University of Plymouth
• the final year of the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy degree at the University College of St. Mark & St. John
• the final year of the BSc (Hons) Fitness and Coaching degree at the University College of St. Mark & St. John
• final year health and fitness degree programmes at a range of universities
• a wide range of careers in the health, fitness and sports therapy industries.

Entry Requirements:

• sports massage/sports psychology
• human anatomy
• biomechanics and kinesiology
• safety and sports injuries/health issues
• approaches to research
• health-related fitness programmes and exercise design
• work-based learning and employability
• managing people
• nutrition
• sports therapy case studies.

Modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework including practicals, examinations and end module tests and practices.

Case Studies
