About this course
You will need the usual entry requirement of five GCSEs at grade C or above in addition to a grade C or above in GCSE Maths or Statistics.

What is this course all about?
It is for those students who wish to study Statistics to help them with any statistical work that they may encounter in future careers or Higher Education, or because they have enjoyed studying Statistics as part of their GCSE course.
What Topics will I study?
At AS: Basic statistical techniques, analysis of time series and secondary statistics, non parametric hypothesis testing and inferential statistics

At A2; Further distributions, estimation and hypothesis testing. Experimental design, analysis of variance and quality control.
How will my work be assessed?
Each year, one module is taken in January with the other two units in June. There is no coursework. The first three units make up the AS grade. All six go towards the final A Level grade.

What skills do I need to succeed?
There will be discussion of topics in class and you will be shown how to use a graphical calculator.
What knowledge do I need to succeed?
Some previous knowledge of Statistics either through GCSE Maths or Statistics courses.
What are the lessons like?
The course is designed to ensure a smooth transition from GCSE Maths or Statistics. A range of techniques will be used including the use of the interactive whiteboard, internet and graphical calculator. You will be introduced to topics in an accessible, relevant and enjoyable way.
What have I got to do to do well?
Practise techniques learnt and read carefully and extract relevant information for use in solving problems. Explain your conclusions in clear, simple language.

Statisticians can work in the healthcare environment, in the pharmaceutical industry, in quality control, as a government statistician or for major companies as highly paid actuaries.
