Stonemasonry CSKILLS Award Level 2 Diploma (QCF) LocationDorset Centre for the Creative Arts Course Overview Apply Now The Level 2 course is ideal if you want to enter the construction industry and need to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for stonemasonry. This course provides practical ‘hands on’ experience of stonemasonry, during which you will be learning to prepare for the job, setting out and receiving materials. The course will provide you with a broad knowledge, understanding and skill training to become qualified within stonemasonry. You do not need to be employed within your chosen trade to undertake this course as it teaches you the underpinning knowledge required as well as ‘building’ your practical skills.

• Selection is by interview. • Applications from mature students are welcome. • You must demonstrate an interest and commitment to study. Plus the following • You should have 4 GCSEs including maths and English at minimum grade D or equivalent. • Previous experience with stone is not necessary though you will preferably have some art, craft or other related commercial experience. Course Content • Building methods and construction technology • Carry out basic setting out and fixing • Carry out safe working practices in construction • Information, quantities and communication with others • Prepare standard stonemasonry components • Produce and fix a stepped plinth stone • Produce standard stonemasonry components • Produce standard templates and moulds Keep up-to-date with our stonemasonry blog - www.weymouthcollegestonemasonry.com How will I be assessed? For Level 2 there is continuous training assessment throughout the course and you will complete one practical test and two multi-choice knowledge tests. Progression From Level 2 you can progress to the Stonemasonry Level 3 Diploma, and NVQ Level 2 or NVQ Level 3 with relevant work placements or an Apprenticeship. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
