What does this module offer?
This course is for nurses caring for patients with or at risk of stroke in practice or in the community
Studying Education for Health’s Stroke module will enable you to recognise the early warning signs of stroke and will enable you to effectively manage and potentially prevent the condition.
This module will enable you to identify people at risk of stroke, recognise the symptoms of stroke and manage health and social care needs following a stroke.
The subjects covered are mapped against the NHS KSF, the Stroke Specific Education Framework and include primary prevention, recognition of those at risk of stroke, pathophysiology of stroke, acute management and rehabilitation, long term care and organising care.
The module aims to enable you to understand the ways in which you can contribute to achieving quality care for people who have had a stroke, whether that be through using tools to identify risk (e.g. Health Check process, GRASPAF, ABCD2), managing the symptoms of stroke, or planning and providing an aspect of care following a stroke. It is structured so that you will be able to access up to date and informative practice guides and resources and lead to you to contribute confidently to care for people with this important long term condition, and their families / carers.
Delivery method: Written distance learning materials
Assessment method: A single 4,000 word assignment
