About this course
There are no formal entry requirements, although it might be useful if you have completed the digital or traditional photography programmes at Leicester College, as the course looks at apertures, shutter, and light meter reading. Support will be given by the tutor if you have limited experience though. A keen interest in photography is essential and a basic understanding of some camera attributes and functions would be beneficial. You can consider bringing your own camera to practice with.

Course programme
Year 1
This course concentrates on studio lighting techniques. Lectures, demonstrations and practical experiences will include portraiture and small product/still life lighting. You will learn the difference between hard and soft lighting and understand how correct lighting can improve your photography. Your tutor will give you expert advice on lighting ratios, exposure techniques and handling a flash meter, whether in our photography studio with the hi-glade system or with portable flash lighting. You can shoot on either film or digital and you will aim to produce a small portfolio of images with a supporting logbook. This course is perfect for students with some photographic/camera knowledge of apertures, shutter, and exposures. The course is especially suited for you if you have completed the Leicester College certificates in traditional and digital photography. The lessons will be informal, and you will be encouraged to invite models/family/friends to sit for your portraits.
