Sub Editing for Journalists

Described as “the last line of defence”, sub-editors are the ones who know about fluidity, grammar and quotations and play a vital role on whether a story is read or ignored. This course will give you an overview into the roles of a sub-editor, as well as, a range of skills in editing, preparing, placing and producing a news story for online and print.

This course has been designed to give you the confidence to sub news and prepare you for the competitive world of work as a sub-editor.

• Sub-editing in Microsoft Word
• Introduction to sub-editing in Adobe InDesign

• Basic photo editing in Adobe Photoshop
• Writing headlines
• Writing standfirsts
• Captions and pull-out quotes
• Producing a simple page
