The course is for students who may have a learning difficulty, a physical disability, and who need support with managing emotions and behaviour. This course is also suitable for students who left school with low level qualifications. The course develops the skills needed to progress to employment/supported employment or higher level learning. Maths and English functional skills are also developed. Lessons are very practical and students will undertake work experience with the support of a job coach.

Course programme
Communication Skills, Maths and English and Personal and Social Development. Students will be assessed to find out how 'work ready' they are. They will explore the idea of businesses and the roles and responsiblities in businesses. They will then form and run small companies. The use of shops, stalls and cafes will give students the opportunity to gain realistic work experience. Students may also gain experience in producing products and preparing products for sale. They might run an on-line business. Other options are catering, gardening, furniture restoration and working in a model office. Students wil gain an award in Personal and Social Development. Students will develop skills in communication, practical number and using technology. They will work on making choices, keeping safe, getting on with others, team work and general skills for work. Students may take part in an external placement supported by a job coach. The supported employment programme is delivered at Keighley College, and Technology campuses. All classes have full access to the learning support, care and access teams. The campus is accessible to all, providing quality equipment and facilities such as the canteen, coffee shop, student area and library. The campuses are situated within the City of Leeds or town of Keighley and are close to all local amenities. Students may progress onto employment/supported employment or our Level 1 supported employment programme. They could progress on to vocational courses Our Next Move service is able to provide a personalised programme of support and guidance to help achieve this. Students will also be offered the opportunity to develop interests in new activities and create a timetable of activity that is sustainable outside of the College.
