About this course

The STL NVQs apply to anyone who provides direct support for teaching and learning in any type of school - primary (including foundation stage), secondary, special or pupil referral units. Must have Level 2 Literacy skils and be employed as a Teaching Assistant.

Introduction:
This new NVQ will replace the level 3 NVQ for teaching assistants (TAs). The supporting teaching and learning in schools (STL) NVQs have been developed to reflect changes in support staff roles. They still cover the teaching assistant role but have been broadened in scope to include new roles and responsibilities such as cover supervision, exam invigilation, pastoral care and others. The change in title reflects the wider range of job titles covered by the new qualifications.

You will attend 20 college workshops

Time - Monday 5.00pm - 8.00pm Cost - TBC

Venue - Fulwood Campus Start Date - February-July 2010.

Course Content:
The level 3 NVQ requires the achievement of ten units of competence from the national occupational standards. There are six mandatory units that each candidate must achieve. In addition, each candidate is required to achieve four of the optional units. Selection of optional units will be a matter of choice for the candidate in consultation with his/her employer, bearing in mind employment requirements and the candidate's career aspirations.

  • Develop and promote positive relationships.
  • Support the development and effectiveness of work teams.
  • Reflect on and develop practice.


Assessment:
Most of the evidence you need to produce will be work-based. Each candidate will be allocated an experienced assessor who will assess you in the workplace and look at the evidence in your portfolio to judge if you have fully met the NVQ standards.

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
