Surveying and Level Interpretation
Many designers are familiar with designing on the flat, but a sloping
or undulating site can cause them problems. Students are expected to know
how to carry out and draw up a chain and level survey. This course covers
the principles and formula for allowing extra calculation for heights of
retaining walls, numbers of steps and calculating quantities of earth to
be moved or removed. It will also enable them to produce practical and
more workable designs, giving them greater confidence when working with a
client and a contractor.
Stuart Gibbs OND has worked
in landscape construction for many years and is one of the management team
at Graduate Gardeners, Gloucestershire - winners of numerous medals and
awards for their garden construction. He has also individually won both a
Chelsea and RHS Gold Medal for design and build.
