Syllabus

Unit One: Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp (L/600/1214)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to use effective and safe working methods when shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp
• Be able to shampoo hair and scalp
• Be able to condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Know the salon and legal requirements
• Know how to work safely, effectively and hygienically when shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp
• Know basic science for shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp
• Know products, equipment and their use
• Know shampooing, conditioning and treatment techniques
• Know how to communicate and provide aftercare advice for clients

Unit Two: Advise and consult with clients (D/600/1265)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to identify what services clients want
• Be able to analyse the hair, skin and scalp
• Be able to advise clients and agree services and products
• Understand salon and legal requirements
• Understand salon services products and prices
• Understand how to perform hair, skin and scalp analysis
• Understand methods of communication

Unit Three: Style and finish hair (F/600/1002)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to use safe and effective methods of working when styling and finishing hair
• Be able to blow dry hair into shape
• Be able to finger dry hair into shape
• Be able to finish the hair
• Know salon and legal requirements
• Understand how to work safely, effectively and hygienically when styling
• Understand the effect of styling and finishing techniques on the hair
• Understand how to use products and equipment to style and finish hair
• Understand blow drying and styling techniques and methods
• Understand how to communicate with and provide aftercare advice to clients

Unit Four: Promote and sell products and services to clients (J/601/5337)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to promote and sell hair and beauty products
• Understand how to evaluate the promotion of products and services

Unit Five: Monitor and maintain health & safety practice in the salon (R/600/8780)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to carry out a risk assessment
• Be able to monitor health and safety in the salon

Unit Six: Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks (Y/600/8635)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to prepare for cutting hair
• Be able to provide a cutting service

Unit Seven: Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques (R/600/8634)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to prepare for styling services
• Be able to provide styling services

Unit Eight: Colour hair to create a variety of looks (D/600/8636)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to prepare for colouring services
• Be able to provide colouring services

Unit Nine: Hairdressing consultation support for colleagues (H/600/9061)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to provide consultation support for colleagues

Unit Ten: Research in the hair and beauty sector (R/601/5342)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to carry out research relating to the hair and beauty sector
• Be able to plan a research investigation concerning the hair and beauty sector

Unit Eleven: Creative hairdressing design skills (H/600/8637)

On completion of this unit you will:

• Be able to plan an image
• Be able to create an image

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 550 hrs.
