About this course

Students aged 19 or over should have a keen interest in Swedish Massage together with Underpinning Knowledge of Health & Safety and Anatomy and Physiology. This will be provided prior to the start of the course, or in the event of a late starter these packs will be given out on the first day of study.

Introduction:
Basic massage in the UK follows the pattern known as Swedish Massage, which is extended in workplace situations to meet specific needs. The main objectives of this qualification are to provide an understanding of body massage primarily for stress relief, lymphatic drainage and as a basis of massage used for a wide variety of outcomes. This is the first stage and most commonly used qualification type for body massage.

Models (essential)
You will be required to bring a model -
  • Day 1 and Day 2 - 9.30am - 2.30pm
  • Day 3 - Two models one at 9.30am and another at 11.00am


Study Mode & Location:
This 3 day course is split into two days of training and one day of assessments. Prior to the start of the course you will be given Health & Safety assignments and a workable Anatomy and Physiology pack, which should provide you with the underpinning knowledge you will need to acquire.

It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

All practical assessments must be carried out on paying clients, which you will be asked to provide.

Course Content:

Assessment:
All units are internally assessed by an assessor observing and questioning your practical work. There are also assignments, plus Units V2 and V74 are externally assessed by a single test paper, Anatomy and Physiology will be marked via workpacks. All candidates will need to do case studies, practice techniques for assessment within the six week gap. Day three of study will be Portfolio building and three practical assessments of the Full Body Massage, which will be assessed by the internal Verifier as well as the Assessor.

All practical assessments must be carried out on paying clients, which you will be required to provide.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Body Massage. Employment opportunities exist in sectors providing body massage services.

Please note - no canteen facilities will be available throughout this course and therefore it is recommended that you bring a packed lunch for both students and clients.

You will need to have an informal interview with an Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
