Provide you with the information required by the Daycare Standards for a comprehensive induction into playwork. Provide you with an understanding of children and play, the roles and responsibilities of a playworker, how to build relationships with children and finally how to keep children safe. Provide you with an opportunity to start to explore the principles of Playwork. Enable you to develop confidence in working with children aged 4 to 16 in a Playwork setting. Provide opportunities for you to gain practical playwork experience. Suitable for: Those looking for work in an after school club or other play setting.

Course programme

Take 5 for Play is a tutor led course with 10 hours of practice in a school or playwork setting. Tutors will help to organise placements at local play settings if needed. The course has lots of practical activities and games. You will be asked to keep a short diary of your playwork practice.

Is Take 5 for Play a recognised training course?

Yes: Take 5 for Play includes the Playwork Induction Standard. OFSTED has agreed that courses that include the Induction Standard will be accepted as evidence that playscheme staff have been adequately briefed.

The course:

  • Provides you with the information required by the Daycare Standards for a comprehensive induction into playwork.
  • Provides you with an understanding of children and play, the roles and responsibilities of a playworker, how to build relationships with children and finally how to keep children safe.
  • Provides you with an opportunity to start to explore the principles of Playwork.
