TCMC Diversity Training
Take The Challenge Make The Change Diversity Training Programme The TCMC Diversity Training Programme aims to:

  • Enable participants to explore their own identity and that of key groups in society
  • Explore the experiences of different groups and how society reacts to them

    The programme has a 4 modular approach over a total of 24 hours (4 x 6 hours)

Module 1: Exploring personal identity Module 2: Common issues, uncommon experiences Module 3: Equality and human rights Module 4: Making the change Examples of Potential Learning Some examples of the learning from each module are given below. There are a total of 15 sessions to choose from depending on the learning outcomes you would like. By the end of module 1 participants should have developed:
  • An understanding of the key social groups and their profile in Northern Ireland
  • An understanding of their own prejudices, and how and why we stereotype By the end of module 2 participants should have developed:
  • An understanding of the experiences of different groups
  • An understanding of the added dimensions of disadvantage experienced by those belonging to several 'minority' groups By the end of module 3 participants should have developed:
  • An understanding of anti-discrimination laws, their potential and limitations
  • An understanding of the potential to promote equality of opportunity through Section 75 By the end of module 4 participants should have developed:
  • Personal skills to help influence change
  • An ability to develop a personal action plan to promote diversity TCMC was developed by Diversity Matters, which is a partnership programme led by Disability Action that includes representation from the community and voluntary sector, trade unions, employers and government. Diversity Matters aims to promote co-operation and a partnership approach to diversity issues in the workplace. Diversity Matters has trained to a specific standard:
  • 6 lead facilitators to deliver the whole of the programme
  • 9 'guest' facilitators to co-facilitate a module of the programme and lead a session on a specific topic and/or community of interest Diversity Matters recommends that the TCMC Diversity Training Programme, in part or in full, is only to be delivered by those specifically trained to deliver it.

    On Disability Action

    Provider description
Disability Action works to ensure that people with disabilities attain their full rights as citizens, by supporting inclusion, influencing Government policy and changing attitudes in partnership with disabled people.

Disability Action is unique in its work, as it is the only Northern Ireland wide pan disability organisation working with disabled people with various disabilities; physical, mental, sensory and hidden. Our work is important as one in five people in Northern Ireland has a disability.

As a campaigning body, we represent the views of our 180 member groups, working to bring about positive change to the social, economic and cultural life of people with disabilities and consequently to our entire community.

We offer a range of services including Information & Policy, Employment and Training Support, Capacity Building, Training on Disability & Diversity Issues, Transport and Mobility Assessment, all aimed at improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in Northern Ireland.

Disability Action has four offices. It's Headquarters in Belfast, and three local offices in Derry, Dungannon and Carrickfergus each providing a range of services.
