2. Course description Aimed at anyone who would like to study a teacher training course at degree level, but who doesn't have the qualifications required by universities, this Access to Higher Education Diploma will provide all the foundations needed to advance your knowledge and train to become a successful teacher. Exploring education, learning and teaching - alongside English and History - you'll get a broad introduction into key areas, including teaching strategies, learning styles, assessment methods, and designing, facilitating and evaluating learning (reflective practice). You'll cover a wide period of history - from the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution - and look at poetry, plays, novels and creative writing. As well as delving into theories of how children learn and national education policies, you'll also take part in a six week (one day per week) teaching placement in a school and an assessed Micro-Teach session, complete with an Enhanced DBS check. This will help you to develop theoretical underpinnings of teaching and then put what you know into practice, ensuring you're well prepared for university and your future career.
