Course programme
You study two core modules: Academic Study Skills and Education Studies. You will also choose two modules from: Economics, English Literature, History, Psychology, Sociology. You will be expected to attend between 2.5 or 3 days a week. You will be expected to undertake private study of 10-15 hours a week in addition to this. You must have experience as a voluntary teaching assistant or similar in schools, or be prepared to arrange this during the year.
You need a minimum grade C in GCSE English, Maths and Science prior to enrolment. It would also be advantageous if you had relevant work experience with children or in a community-related role. All candidates are subject to an interview and aptitude test prior to enrolment.
Assessment is by coursework and by occasional written examinations.
You can progress on to a range of possible degrees such as Education Studies, Primary Education, Early Childhood Studies and other education-related areas. The course coordinator for the Teaching route and our careers and Higher Education advisors will give you advice and guidance on this and on your application to university.
