Teaching Assistant Course

This qualification will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers a responsibilities range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships.

It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning Apprenticeship.

About this course

Anyone who is working in a role that supports pupils’ learning.

You should be at least 18 years old. CACHE does not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines.

You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement, as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. We recommend approximately 150 hours working in real environment (minimum of 6 hours a week)

How is it assessed?
It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

This Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools Level 2 course is available to learners aged 16+ who are interested in working within a school as a teaching assistant, classroom assistant or learning support assistant in key stage 1 and above. This is a competence based qualification which requires students to be employed or have a placement within a school setting.

The aims of the course are to enable students to understand the roles and responsibilities to those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools and provides an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively in a self-directed way. It prepares students to support the teacher and the delivery of curriculum within a school as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence, and skills for learning. It seeks to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge and an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school.
