Teaching Assistant (Level 3 Diploma) - A Home Study, Distance Learning Course
-
Having never done a course like this before I initially felt quite apprehensive but once I begun to focus on the subject and worked through the notes I felt more at ease. Completing the TMAs and receiving feedback certainly helped as I felt I was on the right track. The course was thoroughly enjoyable and at the right level for what I require at this stage. Having completed the course it will certainly help me in my work, I will be looking at plants and the environment in a different way from now on. The course content covered a wide range of topics that encompass Botany and I have learnt a great deal from the subject as a whole and I hope to continue to learn more about some of the subjects covered.

Teaching Assistant Ascentis Level 3 Diploma
How is the course structured?
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant course is divided into seven comprehensive units:
The Teaching Assistant Award consists of a number of modules, each of which relate to a particular aspect that is important and relevant to the teaching assistant role. The modules are organised into two groups:
Mandatory modules
There are five of these and you must complete all of them. They are:
- Provide support for learning activities
- Support children’s development
- Help to keep children safe
- Contribute to positive relationships
- Provide effective support for your colleagues
Optional modules
There are a number of these and you must select and complete two of them. They are:
- Use information and communication technology to support pupils’ learning
- Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs
- Support children and young people’s play
- Provide displays
You must therefore complete seven modules in total.
Each module within the Teaching Assistant Award contains a number of sections relating to different aspects of the overall topic with which it is concerned. Each section contains both descriptive text and a range of questions that are designed to test and help you demonstrate your understanding of the material covered.
COURSE ASSESSMENT
There is a mixture of question types requiring a range of responses, including: descriptive answers or the completion of practical activities. If you are currently working with children the activities may be used in support of your particular role, however, if you are not actively working with children at present, you will find that wherever possible the questions are structured to provide you with alternative means of answering them. You may find it profitable to approach the head of one of your local schools, to explain what you are doing and to see whether there are any opportunities for you to gain experience by helping out in the school on a purely voluntary basis.
Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a nationally recognised certificate will be awarded by ABC Awards as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme.
