Overview

If you are thinking about becoming a teaching assistant or are interested in what happens in schools, this course is for you. It focuses on the work of the teaching assistant in primary schools with children from 4 -11 years of age.

  • Introduce students to the role and responsibilities of the teaching assistant
  • Explain the career structure and training available for teaching assistants
  • Demystify some of the educational jargon used in schools
  • Explore how schools maintain good behaviour and how the TA can support this
  • Explore various Special Educational Needs which the TA might encounter
  • Explore how the TA assists the teacher through planning/preparation, delivery and feedback from learning sessions
  • Explore how the TA can support literacy and numeracy teaching
  • Enable students to plan their next steps in learning or volunteering
