Course Objectives

In accordance with the latest specifications, this course has been designed to encourage students to:

Develop and apply their knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation
Develop and apply their understanding of the concepts and methods appropriate for the analysis and study of language
Use linguistic and literary approaches in their reading and interpretation of texts, showing how the two disciplines can relate to each other
Engage creatively and critically with a wide range of texts
Explore the ways in which texts relate to each other and the contexts in which they are produced and received
Develop their skills as producers and interpreters of language
Undertake independent and sustained studies to develop their skills as producers and interpreters of language.

How is the Course Structured?

The Pearson Edexcel A Level specification is structured into three 'components':

Component 1: Voices in Speech and Writing

  • Arthur Miller, All My Sons

Component 2: Varieties in Language and Literature

  • Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
  • Angela Carter, The Bloody Chamber

Component 3: Coursework

For your coursework, you will study one fiction text and one non-fiction text. On this course you will study:

  • Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest
  • Wendy Jones, Grayson Perry: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl

Course Fees

The enrolment fee for the New A' Level English Language and Literature (Full AS + A2) home study course is £450, though for a limited time we are offering you the opportunity to pay only £360 which is a 20% discount if you enrol online and pay in full.

You can also opt for our Easy Payment Plan and enrol online today by paying a deposit of £90 and then 4 equal payments of £90 per month. The first instalment is paid about a month after you receive your course.
