This course covers the standards for numeracy specialist teachers/tutors/trainers in the post-16 sector.
Units covered are:
Numeracy and the learners (Level 5)
Improving numeracy knowledge, understanding and practice (Level 5)
Numeracy learning and teaching (Level 5)
This qualification is designed to enable you to:
adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching numeracy
reflect on your own levels of experience, practice and skills, and the areas for development
identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation for numeracy learners
develop confidence, communication and interpersonal skills and awareness of your professional role and responsibilities The 45-credit Diploma (formerly called Additional Diploma) includes 90 contact hours, when a variety of strategies will be used including whole-class, pair and individual work, presentations, case studies and workshop activities. The course runs at our Horsforth Campus.
Day/time: Mondays 2.00 – 5.30pm for 30 weeks, starting in September 2016. At least 50 hours' current group teaching in Numeracy/Maths at Entry Level and Level 1 and/or Level 2. On completing this qualification, you will be a qualified Subject Specialist in Mathematics/Numeracy. If you have not already completed your generic teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or Cert Ed), you will need to complete this to become fully qualified and be able to apply for QTLS. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
