Technical Report Writing M0763
A good report will be understood without difficulty and decisions can be
taken with confidence on the outcome of the report. A bad report may
very well cause the wrong decisions to be taken with all the risks that
it entails. A report is a means of communication, between you and the
person who commissioned the report.
Good writing therefore has an enormous impact on the positive outcome of
the report, maybe what is subsequently purchased or maybe on the future
products and future well being of your company.
This intensive one day course provides the foundations for effective
technical writing in a business environment.
The basics of communication are discussed at the outset and the general
structure of reports outlined to ensure clear dissemination of written
information. Specific report styles are discussed in detail, from
management and sales reports to project reports and business case
preparation.
The development of clear, concise and unambiguous instructions,
procedures and manuals are detailed and the ground rules for writing
good business letters and emails are presented. The format and layout of
a report can have significant impact and key pointers on style outlined.
The course demonstrates the value and methods of good writing by using
lots of examples, contrasting good and bad, to indicate which writing
styles work and which don't - and why.
The tutor's instructional methods build on the observation that most
people know a good technical report when they read one. He enables
delegates to understand and implement effective writing techniques.
The tutor is a highly experienced Chartered Engineer with significant
experience of technical writing and consultancy across a wide range of
industries. He has also been involved in the training of engineers at
all levels for more than 20 years and is ideally placed to improve the
competency of technical report writing.
