  • Having engaged with the university in almost every way possible, I haven't regretted it. I have been an active part of a society including on the committee, travelled to China and worked for the CUSU. All of these things have made my experience in Coventry unforgettable. I wouldn't change it for the world. Regular extra-curricular employability and skills sessions (mock interviews and assessment centres) alongside a constantly updated Graduates and Vacation Scheme website. Great library. Mooting room is very effective. Academic is amazing and the counselling, mental health, and advice centres employees are second to none. More counselling staff are needed to support the students that need it, but those that are there are invaluable. Most societies engage in volunteer work which affects those in the community and volunteering projects in countries such as Morocco, Palestine and Jordan are available.

Working closely with Teenage Cancer Trust - the leading UK charity in this field - professional organisations and clinical experts from across the multi-disciplinary team, including young people with cancer themselves, we offer a postgraduate certificate in Teenage/Young Adult Cancer Care through e-learning. This collaborative working ensures that contemporary clinical practice is strongly embedded in what we do and supports the strategic development of the workforce and services for this niche group of patients.

A 4000 word Case Study

Independent Study - M05HLS (Term 3)

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

In all three modules students are expected to have study 200 hours.

As there is no attendance at the University required, students must still commit study time. There are 30 hours contact time with tutors who will be online at least once per week in addition to 170 hours of student time required to complete each of the TYA Cancer specific modules (M57CPD & M58CPD). Past students estimate that they spend at least 5-8 hours per week engaging in online activity. Student engagement is regularly monitored.

Learning is mostly done asynchronously (ie. there is no set time to log in) except for tutorials, a live facilitated virtual clinical ethic committee. Part of the assessment of the Independent Study module requires a short seminar (20 minutes) delivered online.

Tutorial times are negotiated with students so as to accommodate global time differences.

Students on the Independent Study module M05HLS meet the module leader regularly to plan, implement and evaluate their programme of study. This takes the form of individual tutorials, seminars and guided study. In addition students are required to consult a specialist member of staff, as arranged through the module leader. Students are expected to work independently within the parameters set in the learning agreement. Self guided study 190 hours, tutorials 6 hours, seminar 4 hours.
