MSc Telecommunications Management
Mode: full-time

The MSc in Telecommunications Management is appropriate if you are currently working within the telecommunications industry (or would like to work in the telecommunications industry), and are looking to gain management level skills to enhance your career prospects.

You will study a variety of units covering aspects of digital technologies, protocols, and regulations for the telecommunications industry, project management, finance and managing people.

There has been significant growth in the use of telecommunications all over the world, from Ethiopia to the United States.

The Guardian reported “in Ethiopia the mobile sector has been growing by 100% or more per annum in recent years, taking the network to its capacity limit and resulting in major infrastructure expansion efforts”.

It further reports that “the national operator, ETC, has budgeted a record amount for the financial year2004/5 for infrastructure improvements.” Other reports indicate that ”further massive investments into fixed, mobile and Internet service, totalling US$4 billion, are planned for the five years to 2012.”

This has lead to a 25 fold increase in the number of mobile cellular subscribers in the country between 2002 and 2007. In the US, the number of mobile cellular subscribers was 141 million in 2002 (figures from the International Telecommunications Union).

This had grown to over 25 million in 2007. Such massive growth requires great technical and infrastructure support. There is currently a great demand for personnel with skills to enable this growth to occur.
