About this course

Ideally you should have four GCSEs at grade C or above, of which at least one is an art/design-related subject. Students with other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

AS & A Level
About the Course
Our AS and A level Textiles courses help you to develop tactile exploration of fabric and fibres within a functional or decorative context.
In the AS year you will have the opportunity to explore the following range of techniques:
• Batik
• Tie dye
• Dip dye
• Silk painting
• Weaving
• Stencilling
• Marbling
• Felt making
The AS year will give you a platform from which to develop your creative skills in the A2 year. In the A2 year you will focus on your individual development of a coursework portfolio.
There will be an initial charge for materials and
equipment of approximately £75, and a further
charge of approximately £50 for materials in the
second year to produce final outcomes in
textiles and fashion

How is the course assessed?
During each of the two years of the course you are required to undertake:
Coursework - 60%,
Controlled Assignment - 40%
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
Are there opportunities for trips or visits?
You will have the opportunity to visit galleries and museums. There is also an annual European study tour.
What next?
This course is favourably viewed as an entry qualification for art and design colleges. It is also a good complementary study if you are entering art, textiles, fashion or design.
