TEXTILES SURFACE PATTERNING LEVEL 1

Course Aims:
This course will introduce students to basic textile printing and dyeing methods using various techniques to develop an understanding of surface pattern. Students will be encouraged to develop their knowledge of pattern and design processes to produce a finished article

Course Content:
The course will consist of surface pattern workshops including basic textile print, dyeing techniques, batik and silk painting. Embellishment in the form of machine and hand embroidery will also be included. The student will be encouraged to use different materials and techniques to translate their ideas into a successful design conclusion.

Progression:
Students may progress to higher level awards e.g ABC Level 2.

ABC

Exam:
There is no exam but each student will be expected to keep a folder for handout sheets, research and planning and preparation for project work. Assessment is informal and ongoing. Students will produce a portfolio of work which is assessed by the tutor and verified by an external moderator.

Qualification:
ABC Certificate in Sewing and Textiles (Surface Pattern) Level 1.
