This course is for those interested in the production and stage management (behind the scenes) side of theatre The vast majority of this course is hands-on and covers everything from stage lighting, to live sound, to costume design Whatever aspects of theatre production you're interested in, you'll be able to develop your skills and use your qualification to either move into Higher Education (degree-level study) or the performing arts industry

What will I learn?

You'll learn about: stage lighting (from rigging to design); sound; set design; scenic construction; scenic painting; prop design and making; costume design; costume construction; and wardrobe supervision There will also be the opportunity to study other areas such as puppetry design and mask making Whatever aspect of theatre you're interested in, you'll gain essential skills and experience to benefit your future career You will have the opportunity to visit Theatrecraft, where you'll meet production students from all over the country, representatives from Higher Education (degree-level), professionals bodies such as SMA and ABTT; and take part in Q&As and seminars with theatre professionals

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of written and practical assignments (including group projects and performance work)

What may it lead to?

Most students intend to make a career within the performing arts industry, and we fully encourage and support progression Many students progress to drama schools and universities, and find employment within the theatre and other creative industries This course has high success rates, and past students have gone on to the Central School of Speech and Drama, RADA, Royal Welsh, Guildhall, Twickenham St Marys', Rose Bruford, Northbrook, Mountview, etc Many now work in many different disciplines within the West End and other theatres around the country

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English) Although it's useful to have some experience of theatre before joining, the course is structured in such a way that it caters for absolute beginners as well

Additional Information & Other Costs

Cost may include: an initial outlay for clothing and equipment ( Blacks strong footwear and overalls, for example); visits to theatre performances and backstage tours (this will incur some cost but discounted tickets are purchased whenever possible) Visits to Theatrecraft in the autumn term (Year 1 and Year 2) are paid by the College
