Course programme

Theology and Religious Studies

Introduction

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Bristol is a centre of international research excellence and focuses on theology and the study of religion, both in the contemporary world and in the past. It has a vibrant undergraduate and postgraduate student community, as well as research centres in Buddhism and Christianity and Culture.

Undergraduate degree programmes involve examining different religious texts and traditions: you can study the Bible, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Chinese Religions. You are encouraged to investigate issues of history, ethics, philosophy, religion and politics, gender, spirituality and interfaith dialogue across religious texts and traditions. To that end, your analysis of religion in its many forms can employ a variety of methodological approaches: historical, archaeological, linguistic and textual, philosophical, theological and comparative.
