Theology, BA - 2016/17

Theology is one of the oldest academic subjects and also one of the most relevant in understanding the modern world. Religious concerns feature regularly in the media. A sound knowledge and an in-depth appreciation of the variety of religious expressions is crucial in making sense of contemporary society. The Theology programme at Canterbury Christ Church University offers a challenging and stimulating course for students interested in the role of Christianity and other major world religions in history and present society and culture. The degree encourages critical thinking and offers the opportunity for lively debate. It focuses mainly on the teachings and practices of Christianity but our students also have the opportunity to explore other religions in the course of their degree. Canterbury is the birthplace of English Christianity and it is an obvious place to study Theology. Canterbury Christ Church has historically close links to the Anglican Church and to the Cathedral where the graduation ceremonies are held. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and study religion for different reasons. Some come from a particular faith background that has inspired their interest; others found it an interesting subject at school or college, while others see it as very useful subject for particular careers such as teaching. Students on this programme are also eligible to apply to study for a year in North America as part of their degree.
