Tiara Making Class This is a two day class
This is a course
for complete beginners in jewellery-making to learn how to make beautiful,
modern accessories for weddings. We will concentrate on tiaras and
headdresses; but many of the techniques covered can be used to make
special occasion jewellery such as necklaces, chokers, cuffs and
hair-combs.
It's a very relaxing laid-back class with a contemporary
slant so that you can learn how to make lovely tiaras and headdresses you
(or your friends) will want to wear now, for example: asymmetric
headdresses; vintage combs; deco-inspired hair-bands.
We go through
several useful techniques on the first day, such as:
-
Different style wirework such as satellite/wave/hill bends
-
Attaching vintage brooches and diamante
-
Incorporating lace/silk flowers
-
Making growing berries/branches/leaves/daisies
-
Twisted wirework for combs
-
Making spikey/50s beaded branches
-
Crocheting with wire
Then on the Sunday I help you by:
-
developing your design ideas with inspiration from samples and
magazines,
-
bringing out key elements from the rest of the wedding outfit
-
'drawing' matching shapes and textures with the wire
-
Considering colour choices and bead selection.
Once you've decided on your own design to follow, there should be plenty
of time to work on your project using the techniques learnt the previous
day, and with plenty of guidance from me.
All wire and beads will be supplied (at a low materials cost) but you're
welcome to bring along your own if you have any, as well as any vintage
jewellery, beads or lace to incorporate: maybe you've been given some of
your Grandma's jewellery which you'd like to make into a special headdress
for your wedding day?
Whatever you choose, it should be a creative,
relaxing weekend full of beautiful vintage-inspired ideas; where you leave
with at least one fantastic, original headdress to wear or present as a
gorgeous gift!
Your tutor for this class will be Sarah Drew.
