Touch-type in a fun and easy way British Computer Society

Level: This is a level 2 course.

What is the e-type course?
e-type is a qualification from the British Computer Society (BCS) that teaches people how to touch-type, so that they can increase the speed and efficiency at which they use a computer - thereby improving their confidence when using a computer at home or at work.

e-type is suitable for anyone who is looking to:
  • Learn to use a computer keyboard effectively
  • Become more confident when using a computer
  • Improve the speed and efficiency at which they use a computer.
Course topics
The e-type courseware comes as part of the complete package and has been specially developed by BCS to provide the best learning experience.

The course will be delivered by the provision of a memory stick that contains the courseware. Progress is saved on to the stick as you go. No hard drive installation!!

e-type alternates between speed practice and accuracy lessons to improve skills in both areas. The program reacts to the individual†s progress, identifying areas of weakness and automatically providing tailored remedial exercises.

In-built reporting and assessment tools enable an accurate snapshot of progress and these can be viewed at any time.

Teaching and Learning
The e-type course is delivered through 10 structured lessons that follow in a logical sequence. Each self-paced lesson builds on the skills learned in previous lessons and at each step the learner is encouraged and motivated to continue.

Assessment details
There are three grades for the e-type qualification and these are based on typing speed and accuracy:
  • BRONZE 20 words per minute at 98% accuracy.
  • SILVER 40 words per minute at 98% accuracy.
  • GOLD 60 words per minute at 98% accuracy.

Candidates will be able to correct their work during the test. Whilst speed will be affected candidates should be able to achieve high levels of accuracy. The tests are web based, marked electronically, and therefore the candidate is presented with their result on-screen immediately after they have completed the test.

Progression
Once you have achieved the level you are happy with you may want to consider other IT courses offered here at Alton College.
