Definition

A Tracheostomy is a surgical opening in the anterior wall of the trachea to facilitate ventilation

 Course content  

• For all healthcare professionals to be aware of and adhere to Tracheostomy Guidelines
• To ensure service users & patients receive the best care and treatment in accordance with current understanding and research
• Types of tubes
• Communication & swallowing
• Removal of tube
• Changing dressing
• Suctioning
• Weaning
• Resuscitation
• Humidification 
• Practical training will take place in the using head and neck mannequin 

How is it assessed?

• Theoretical and practical assessment throughout the course.  

The course format includes lectures, case discussions and interactive workshops.
