Train the Trainer

The main information and content of this course is presented in an interactive presentation style, but workshop sessions ensure full participation by all attendees
Each attendee is required to deliver two presentations, one of five minutes (Day 1) and one of twenty minutes (Day 2).
To make things as realistic as possible, the presentations use the actual materials, methods and techniques as currently (or about to be) used on the participants' standard courses. This gives attendees a chance to try presenting using their real materials, but in a non-threatening workshop environment.

Accurate feedback is vital; hence the group in open forum discusses each presentation, immediately after the presentation critiquing strengths and highlighting areas for improvement. This also forms a valuable part of a Personal Action Plan to apply on return to the training workplace.
This course provides techniques, which will enhance the quality and effectiveness of training sessions given by "technical experts". The workshop will benefit those whose role is to train others in the use of technical products and/or services.
Although everyone develops their own style in delivering technical information, there are specific techniques, which can be very effective when properly applied.
This course takes a fresh look at those techniques and provides a set of interactive 'people skills' approaches, which can ensure high quality, enjoyable training results.
Although actual 'Presentation Technique' is important, this course provides higher-level communication methods, which lead to enhanced audience awareness, better interpersonal contact and a highly interactive, participative presentation style.

DAY ONE - AM

Objectives, Presentation Styles
- Course and attendee introductions
- Specifying Training (assess need, design to deliver, measure effect)
- Objectives and focus of 'Presentations'
- Each person presents five minutes using materials brought to the course. This will be critiqued immediately after each presentation.

- Preparing for presentation - what content? - What delivery method?
- Verbal/non-verbal communication
- How to make things visual - The strongest retention force
- Tools of the trade - Visual Aids (Flipcharts/Whiteboards/OHP/PC Data Projector)

DAY ONE - PM
Interactive Presentation Style
- "Learner-centred" instruction
- Reading (and reacting to) the audience's non-verbal feedback

- Posing questions - stimulating your audience
- Managing an interactive environment
DAY TWO - PM
Team Presentations
Working in teams of two, prepare (one hour is allocated for prep) to deliver a 20-minute hands-on learning session. Delivery to the remainder of the group is by PowerPoint using a Data Projector.
Each team has to complete the following tasks:

  • Specify the lesson content (Goals, timeline, delivery)
  • Prepare the training information as a PowerPoint session
  • Incorporate hands-on elements in the learning process
  • Decide which Team member will handle hich part
  • Deliver a 20-minute session as a Team

Each presentation is followed by an open group discussion on delivery methods and content and acts as a part of the ongoing Personal Action Plans.
Preparation Techniques
- Planning your time
- Planning your materials
- Planning Workshops and Demos
- Planning the Course timeline
- Personal Action Plan - Plan to SUCCEED

What to Bring With You:
The value of this Workshop format depends on you being prepared to try out new techniques and to stretch your presentation style into new areas.
To get the maximum benefit from this, you should make up or acquire training materials, which you can use to present the 5-minute session mentioned above.
You should come to the course ready to present something coherent and have your prompts and notes organised.
If you are already using training materials, or are in preparation of new materials, these will be ideal. Handouts are not necessary.
The course is delivered on two separate days to give attendees time to prepare for presentation on Day Two.

Our mission is to supply high quality training that has an emphasis on skills transfer and a 'real world', practical focus. We strive to ensure that through our training, delegates return to the workplace with skills they can apply immediately.

The hallmark of any intervention by Beckinridge is our commitment to involvement. We have developed many 'hand-held' training interventions including bespoke induction and reskilling programmes with delegate assessment, in line with company objectives, standards, and deadlines.

Also fundamental are the Beckinridge course materials, which are continually updated and are developed with the primary objective of transferring practical knowledge in an efficient way. The courses are modular and are structured in such a way that periods of theory are supported with practical sessions.

The modularity of our courseware along with the fact that we have complete control of our material means that courses can be tailored for specific in-company requirements. This has contributed to our continuing success in the delivery of tailored in-company training interventions.
